Back to Salt Spring

| June 8th, 2009

Pictures from our second trip to Salt Spring . We wound up being able to get to the Bunny Trail, and hiked that to the “Frog Pond”. Had some trouble with the locals who seemed to think “someone’s rented campsite” was the same thing as “swimmin’ hole fer me an ma keeds to run around at”, but the hike itself was great.

One of our tent poles had splintered (hooray for coming prepared with duct tape!), and were both missing our bed and didn’t feel like the extra night would add anything to the trip, so we packed in after dinner on Saturday and came home rather than stay and leave Sunday morning.

Salt Spring June Planning

View Salt Springs Camping area in a larger map

June 5-7 for a first outing this year, and we’re heading back to Salt Spring . Last year we took the red trail I mapped out in my Google Map above. This year, I think we’ll try taking the Hemlock Trail south and see where it ends. If it merges with the Fall Brook Trail above the last waterfall (or if the trail is passable this year), we’ll continue down across Buckley Road and merge onto the Bunny Trail. Depending on how we are set for time, I’d like to try to continue around Bunny and hop (ha!) onto the Cliff Trail and reach the Frog Pond area. (Round trip: just under 6 miles)

If the trail past the third waterfall on Fall Brook is washed out again, we can turn around and head east along Hardwood Trail, then merge onto Upland Trail and follow that back around to the trailhead. From there, we can head west along the Silver Creek Trail, check out the old wall, and continue on around to the Meadow Trail, then head back. (Round trip: just over 5 miles)
